Fasting and Prayer Rules during Haiz

During haiz, Muslim women are exempted from prayer and fasting. These acts of worship are suspended until the bleeding ends and purification is complete. It is important to understand what is required afterwards and how to maintain spiritual connection during this time.

Prayer obligations

You do not pray during menstruation. Unlike fasting, missed prayers are not made up later. After your period ends, perform ghusl and resume prayer at the next prayer time. You may still engage in remembrance of Allah, supplications and study.

Fasting obligations

You may not fast in Ramadan or voluntary fasts while menstruating, but you must make up missed obligatory fasts. Plan to reschedule them before the next Ramadan. Fasting outside of haiz is a great opportunity to catch up and gain extra reward.

Maintaining spirituality

Stay spiritually connected by reciting dhikr, listening to Quran recitation and reading Islamic books. Journaling, making dua and reflecting on your blessings can help keep your heart engaged. See our tips for emotional well‑being for more ideas.

Understanding these rules ensures that you observe your religious obligations properly while embracing menstruation as a natural cycle within Allah’s wisdom.
