Haiz Calculator: common questions
What is the minimum and maximum length of haiz in Hanafi fiqh?
At least 3 days (72 hours) and at most 10 days (240 hours). Bleeding that stops before 3 full days is istihaza.
What is the minimum purity between two periods?
Fifteen days. A clean gap of less than 15 days between two bleedings is not purity; it is joined to the bleeding.
My habit is 7 days but I bled for 9. Is the extra istihaza?
No. If the bleeding stopped within 10 days, all 9 days are haiz and your habit becomes 9 days.
When does my habit decide the ruling?
Only when the bleeding goes beyond 10 days. Then you return to your habitual days and the rest is istihaza.
Do I make up prayers for the istihaza days?
Yes. Prayer is obligatory during istihaza, so prayers missed on days that turned out to be istihaza are made up.
Does brown or yellow discharge count?
Yes. During days that can be haiz, every colour except pure white counts as haiz in the Hanafi school.
I do not have a habit yet. Can I use this?
If this is one of your first periods and you have no habit, use the Taharat & Dam Calculator, which applies the rules for a woman without a habit.
